Contentment in Simplicity, yet having a hopeful Joy & a Teachable Spirit for a better future. All these describe the East Timorese I have met.

It’s an irony really. As a volunteer to serve in Timor Leste, I had a prepared heart and mind to serve. All that I was, all I had in me. Well… At least I thought at first, that it was all about giving. What I least expected was the receiving into my Spirit & a glimpse of the extent of God’s Love for the Timorese people & for me.

I had a chance to teach Practical English Usage to groups of Timorese Youths aged 18-29 from a Youth Centre in the town of Timor Leste- Dili. We shared basic English conversational techniques like Meeting & Greeting people in English for the first time. They were all very keen to learn & absorbed fairly quickly. Some of them even had to rush off straight after class for more lessons at their local universities in the afternoon or would come straight after school to the Youth Centre for English Classes, rain or shine. Something I could personally learn myself… determination & an undeterred spirit to succeed. It showed through in the tenacity of the people living there too, & their style of doing business. They do not give in too quickly to strike a bargain with their customers. They were business smart. Yet, they display a politeness that is evident even on their one way street roads. I see drivers slowing down & even stopping to allow pedestrians to pass even at high traffic areas. Everyone knew everyone. Nothing in the city of Dili felt like it needed to be rushed. The pace of life was simple and unhurried.

Yet it concerns me that perhaps its one of the main problems for the Timorese too…. That they do not feel a sense of purpose in life. Do they not question themselves the very same things we ask ourselves too? What on earth am I here for? You mean there is Nothing more to Life than to get a good education and job, get married, find housing, solve surmounting problems… and the list goes on…. until one day you find yourself lying in a wooden box with your toes facing heavenwards? God, how horribly boring life must be if that were true! I know that not to be true because of whom God is & how He made my life beautiful. He is my portion & passion for perseverance in life. Come what may, Jesus is the only way. I’m glad some of the Timorese people I have met do know this truth and have embraced it, am encouraged to see and hear what God has done for them in their lives and as they share with me, I too feel the faith in my own heart rise & gratefulness wells up inside of me all over again. It’s great to feel loved by God & to see Him working in other people’s lives too. How personally wonderful… my personal Jesus.

The Timorese are very hospitable people. They offered to me what was best in their house, whether was it their food, their bed, their only electric fan. In fact I felt I was very blessed during my stay at the village. God provided for me as I had forgotten to bring my sleeping bag along. My local host had insisted I shared her mattress. Through these little things, God shows to me that He is there to take care of me All the Time.

During the weekends, we spent time with some of the local youths playing games at their beach. The unspoiled beauty of God’s creation is magnificent. I was awestruck.

Throughout the whole 10 days, our mission was simple. To befriend the youths, spend time listening to their needs and concerns, then meet their needs if possible. Through it all, the message that they needed to hear was simple; that we believe Timor could succeed as a new independent nation. Just like how Singapore gained independence 40 years ago and was blessed to become who she is today. If we can do it, Timor can too. And I believe with all my heart that God wants to bless them because He loves them. Was encouraged to know they were encouraged by our friendships, prayers and all efforts to help their school and families.

He has opened up my eyes to see Him through this Timor experience. The Lord will be the light unto your path, so that you will not stumble in the darkness. He will be your assurance if your eyes are fixed on His. Like the apostle Paul wrote in the bible:
Philippians 4:12-14
“….But One Thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus”

"Breathe again" is refreshing touch of contemporary praise and worship recorded live at Brisbane City Church. Hearing the album was a welcoming delight. The praise (songs) throws a bomb under your seat with catchy guitar licks, pumping drum beats and screaming vocals - It feels like you just stepped into a U2 or Guns and roses concert. Yet above the energy, the worship songs are intimately inviting. The lyrics, deep, easily singable and centered on Christ, beckons the worshipper to come nearer to Jesus.
Many i've talked to found their songs moving, rock, cultural relevant, inviting, exciting, contemporary, catchy and even daring. Personally, I'm blessed by the skillful and powerful harmony of style, sound and substance (message) of "Breathe again". One of the cutting edge christian albums that is sold out in making God famous!

Come ladies
Listen to a story about a girl named Esther, how she persuaded the Persian King to save Israel
She was with the Jews in exile, yet she knew her roots and how to dress well
In a beauty pageant she met man who took care of all, entered the palace as Queen, not concubine
But the Persian King heard rumours, started a massacre. Would God’s people be wiped out?

She was afraid to say the wrong thing, at a loss what to do
She remembered what the Bible taught and saved her people
Since then history was re-written and everybody give thanks
That “trick” she did to end the tragedy, we better learn early

Martial arts secret manual, read it and win, no more enemies

Come brothers
Listen to a story about a guy named Daniel, Spent a night with lions but brave and still standing
He managed work wisely and was manly, but bad guys accused him of kneeling to God
Sadly the Persian king has set the rules, he still said, “I’m sorry, your God will save you!”
The next day Daniel did not break a bone nor limb. Could the lions have bad breath so their mouths were shut?

The more amazing the miracles, the greater is the name of God
Credit to Daniel, from now on I can follow his example
In the depth of the lions’ den, with his faith and sincerity
He asked the angels to manifest and use the Persian Super Kick!

You say “maybe” I say “can!”

Why are you so blind and cruel?
Cried the young handsome currant vine.
When once you were so very kind.
Now pruned away my pretty gems,
Here to stay the stumps of my stem.
Among my friends i stand, a silly fool.

Despair not, precious currant vine!
Said the Gardener, kind and wise.
Tis not for shade nor shelter like the trees,
But blessings may fall upon you three times three
Behind the dark clouds in the skies,
the glorious sun will always shine upon you.

Do not weep, precious currant vine!
Said the Gardener, kind and wise.
Gone may be, thy green pretty crown.
But you are meant to grow up fine.
Upon rich firm soil your strength will rise.
To bear upon you a lovely gown.
Of the sweetest fruits earth has ever known
If you would only patience sow.

You! You will never ever change! Don’t you know……?”.

Today, the Lord showed me during worship that He will never ever change – and this time, it is a good thing.

All my spirit could do was to respond. “Lord, thank you that You never ever change.”.

I guess on this side of heaven, He’s the only one who never ever need to change. In fact, I’m thankful and eternally grateful that He never ever change! Amen!

(Words and Music by Jonathon Douglass and Joel Houston)

I lay my life down at Your feet
You're the only one I need
I turn to You and You are always there
In troubled times it's You I seek
I put You first that’s all I need
I humble all I am all to You

One way Jesus
You're the only one that I could live for
One way Jesus
You're the only one that I could live for

You are always always there
Every how and everywhere
Your grace abounds so deeply within me
You will never ever change
Yesterday today the same
Forever 'til forever meets no end

You are the way the truth and the life
We live by faith and not by sight for You
We're living all for You

The day we came to Expo, is the day God opened Heaven's gate to new and exciting things!

I'm joshua Kwah. Part of the youthnet team setting up the YOUTHNET OFFICIAL WEBSITE.

This blog you see here is NOT the official site. It'll be way better. Nonetheless, this blog will serve as an avenue for youthnet youths to start gathering and talking!

Writing is a gift. It can be used to change lives for Christ.
We are looking for writers who are able to write in a Godly leader's perspective in regards to the topics as listed. To write in a way that can not only express yourself but also influence the youths by sharing Godly insights. It takes more than talent to write this, it takes a heart after God's own heart to write in a way that changes lives.

In this blog, youths will read and comment our articles, and you can comment back, creating interaction and friendships. This also broadens your knowledge of youth culture, youth psychology, youth issues..etc. It can even teach you to counsel, to advice, to listen and I am sure, writing will take on a higher plane for you. More importantly, I am sure you will feel the heart of God calling out to a generation.

You are shaping a generation's mind and heart in your words. Inspire them Christwards. And your walk with God will grow with understanding and character as you serve.

Any of you/your people want to respond to this call? Just leave a buzz. We'll check you out!

For now, let's go, write for Christ!
